Controversy Erupts Over Taste Atlas’ Ranking of Indian Foods: Fans Rally for ‘Achappam’

Taste Atlas recently released its highly debated food rankings, stirring up a storm of controversy within the Indian culinary community. Among the rankings, Kerala’s beloved ‘Sadya’ and the crispy snack ‘Achappam’ found themselves listed among the least favored dishes across the subcontinent. This unexpected classification has sparked outrage on social media, with fans expressing disbelief and disappointment.

The rankings placed Jaljeera, a North Indian drink, at the top of the least favored list, followed closely by traditional sweets like Gajak and regional dishes such as Thengai Sadam and Panta Bhat. Surprisingly, ‘Achappam’ and the South Indian breakfast staple ‘Upma’ also received unfavorable rankings, further fueling the backlash.

In contrast, Taste Atlas’ ‘Most Rated’ list highlighted popular favorites such as Mango Lassi and Masala Chai, alongside iconic dishes like Butter Chicken and Hyderabadi Biryani, which reaffirmed their status as global favorites.

The controversy has led to widespread criticism of the rankings, with food enthusiasts and vloggers demanding justice for their favorite dishes. Many have questioned the basis of the rankings and pointed out perceived biases, particularly against South Indian cuisine. The outcry reflects a passionate defense of India’s diverse culinary traditions amidst perceptions of cultural misunderstanding.
