Confirmed Nipah Virus Deaths in Kozhikode Prompt High Alert

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has officially confirmed that two fatalities in Kozhikode district resulted from the Nipah virus.

This announcement followed the state’s anticipation of results from the National Institute of Virology in Pune Institute, which had been testing samples from one of the deceased individuals and four of their relatives.

Today, Kerala Health Minister Veena George arrived in Kozhikode, where reports indicated two individuals had succumbed to the Nipah virus.

The minister also disclosed the compilation of a primary contact list comprising 75 individuals associated with the suspected Nipah cases. Both fatalities occurred at a private hospital in Kozhikode, with one of the deceased’s family members currently in the Intensive Care Unit, as reported by the Kerala health department.

The initial fatality occurred on August 30, with the second reported on Monday. The health minister has directed local health workers to maintain close surveillance in the affected area.
