Congress Workers Hurl Shoes at Kerala CM’s Convoy; Clashes Erupt During Nava Kerala Sadas Yatra

In a tumultuous turn of events, workers affiliated with the Kerala Students’ Union (KSU), the student wing of the Congress party, reportedly threw shoes at the convoy of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The incident unfolded as the convoy was en route from Perumbavoor to Kothamangalam. Following the shoe-throwing incident, television channels broadcasted scenes of police using canes against the activists. Some footage also depicted unidentified individuals attempting to retaliate against the Congress workers.

The Kuruppampady Police have stated that a case will be registered against the protesters who targeted the Chief Minister’s convoy, as well as those who engaged in the counterattack.

Simultaneously, in another incident, Perumbavoor MLA Eldhose Kunnappilly alleged that he was assaulted by activists of DYFI, a Leftist students’ body, while attempting to admit an injured Congress worker to a hospital. Perumbavoor Police have registered a case related to this incident.

The backdrop to these clashes involves Congress workers protesting against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet colleagues as they embark on the Nava Kerala Sadas Yatra—a state-wide outreach program by the Left government. The opposition party has raised concerns, accusing the government of utilizing state resources funded by taxpayers for the Left party’s political campaign. The situation remains tense as political tensions escalate in the state.
