Dadasaheb Phalke Award Conferred Upon Actress Waheeda Rehman

Veteran Bollywood actress Waheeda Rehman has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2021. This honor was announced by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur. Waheeda Rehman, aged 85, has previously received the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards, making the Dadasaheb Phalke Award the latest addition to her illustrious list of accolades. This award is the highest cinematic honor in the country.

Throughout her illustrious career, Waheeda Rehman has delivered remarkable performances in iconic films such as “Pyaasa,” “Kaagaz Ke Phool,” “Chaudhavi Ka Chand,” “Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam,” “Guide,” “Khamoshi,” and many others. Her acting journey, spanning over five decades, has seen her portray a wide range of characters.

Waheeda Rehman, born on February 3, 1938, in Chengalpet, Tamil Nadu, has appeared in over 90 films. She embarked on her film career with the Telugu film “Rojulu Marai” in 1955.
