Bus crash in Oman : 17 Killed including seven Indians

New Delhi : Around 17 people killed when a bus from Oman met with an accident in the United Arab Emirates. It includes at least seven Indians, the Indian consulate in Dubai said on Friday.

Mwasalat, a government-owned bus company in Oman, said the crash involving its Muscat-to-Dubai route happened at 6pm on Thursday.

“However, this number may go up as eight bodies are still not identified. Four Indians were discharged after first aid and three are receiving treatment in Rashid hospital,” the Indian consulate in Dubai tweeted.

The bus company has said it would suspend the service for the immediate future.

Police in Dubai announced the death toll in tweets early on Friday.

They said the bus crashed into a sign on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. They did not elaborate on what caused the bus driver to hit the sign, though police warn that “sometimes a minor error or negligence” can be fatal.

Police said the dead included different nationalities, without elaborating.
