Malayalam Cinema Shines Bright at IFFI 2023: A Glimpse of the Lineup

In a significant recognition of Malayalam cinema’s prowess, eight compelling movies have secured a coveted spot at the upcoming 2023 Goa International Film Festival. Anand Ekarshi’s directorial venture ‘Attam’ has been chosen as the opening movie for the Indian panorama at the festival. This film was one of the twenty selected by the National Film Development Corporation’s Film Bazaar jury, specifically curated for international delegates. Starring Vinay Fort as the male lead and Serin Shihab as the female protagonist, ‘Attam’ is anticipated to make a powerful impact.

The Panorama section, which showcases the best of Indian cinema, will feature a total of 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films. Among the featured films, seven outstanding Malayalam movies have made the cut. Jeo Baby’s much-anticipated film ‘Kaathal the Core’, Unni Mukundan’s ‘Malikappuram’, Rohit MG Krishnan’s ‘Iratta’, Ratheesh Balakrishna Poduval’s ‘Nna Than Case Kod’, Ganesh Raj’s ‘Pookalam’, and Jude Anthony’s ‘2018’ promise a diverse cinematic experience for the audience.

In the non-feature category, ‘Sree Rudram’, directed by Ananda Jyoti, represents Malayalam cinema’s creative brilliance. Additionally, the festival will showcase noteworthy films from other Indian languages, including Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘Vaccine War’ in Hindi, Sudeepto Sen’s ‘The Kerala Story’, Vetrimaran’s ‘Viduthalai’ in Tamil, and the highly anticipated ‘Ponniyan Selvan 2’ by the legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam.

Film enthusiasts and industry professionals can mark their calendars for the Goa International Film Festival, scheduled to take place from November 20 to 28. This cinematic extravaganza promises a diverse and enriching experience for attendees, celebrating the vibrant tapestry of Indian cinema.
