Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains: A Glimpse Into the Upcoming Comfortable Journeys

As demand for sleeper coaches in the Vande Bharat trains grows, Indian Railways is gearing up to launch these swanky sleepers to cater to long-distance travelers. The new sleeper coaches, designed to meet international standards, promise a superior travel experience compared to existing trains. With fully air-conditioned interiors, automatic doors, and a modern modular pantry, these sleeper trains aim to offer comfort akin to European standards. The coaches will include special provisions for physically disabled passengers, noise insulation, and even hot water supply in AC 1 coach washrooms. The lightweight and rust-proof materials used in the interior design ensure durability and a modern aesthetic.

The prototype for Vande Bharat sleeper coaches is anticipated to be unveiled by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) by April 2024. BEML, in collaboration with Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, is set to produce the first batch of these advanced sleeper trains. BEML, known for manufacturing high-quality coaches, is incorporating innovative materials like glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) to enhance corrosion resistance and reduce weight. The railway’s plans also include introducing trains with a speed of 200 kmph, starting with the Thiruvananthapuram–Bengaluru route in Kerala.

As part of the railway’s extensive plan, contracts have been awarded for 300 new Vande Bharat sleeper trains, including agreements with Russian firm TMH, Titagarh-BHEL consortium, and French firm Alstom. The sleeper train services are expected to revolutionize long-distance travel, providing a comfortable and contemporary journey experience for passengers.
