Kuwait Implements Digital Driving Licenses for Expatriates

Kuwait has introduced a new law mandating digital driving licenses for expatriates starting from December 10. According to the Ministry, non-resident drivers are no longer required to carry physical copies of their driving licenses. The digital licenses, which are valid for one year, must be renewed annually. Renewal procedures can be conveniently completed through the Sahel app or the Ministry’s website.

However, family drivers and international cargo drivers under Article 20 visas are not included in this digital format and must continue carrying printed copies. The validity of digital licenses can be easily verified through the mobile ID app, with a green status indicating an active license and red indicating expiration. It’s crucial to note that when driving abroad, expatriates should possess licenses issued by the respective countries’ authorities.

The Ministry has issued a warning to individuals driving with expired licenses, stating that their licenses will be revoked. This move is part of Kuwait’s efforts to streamline government services, reduce paper usage, and simplify administrative processes.
