Kudumbashree Achieves World Record for Massive ‘Thiruvathira’ Dance Spectacle

Kudumbashree, a women-centric network in Kerala, has made history by orchestrating a grand ‘Thiruvathira’ dance performance involving more than 7,000 of its members on the premises of a local college. Thiruvathira is a traditional ensemble dance form of Kerala, typically showcased during the Onam festival in the months of Chingam and Dhanu in the Malayalam calendar. This extraordinary ‘Thiruvathirakali’ by Kudumbashree participants at Kuttanellur Government College has secured the title for the largest-ever Thiruvathira performance globally, as officially announced.

This remarkable presentation has already gained recognition in both the Limca Book of World Records and Talent World Records, due to its unparalleled participation of 7,027 dancers. The representatives of Kudumbashree were promptly awarded the certificate by Talent World Records after the performance, with the Limca Records’ certificate scheduled for a later presentation. Plans are underway to initiate the process for inclusion in the Guinness Book of World Records, as confirmed by sources within the Kudumbashree Mission.

The event was inaugurated by Revenue Minister K Rajan as part of the district’s Onam festivities, jointly organized by the Tourism Department, district administration, and city corporation. Commending the participants, Minister Rajan emphasized that Kudumbashree stands as a pioneering model for women’s empowerment, having evolved into the world’s largest network for women. The mega Thiruvathira performance captivated a packed audience for a duration of 10 minutes, according to the statement.
