Record Sales of Onam Special Rice; Minister Urges Prompt Purchase of Onamkit Before Sunday’s Distribution Deadline

As Onam festivities approach, Food Minister G R Anil has indicated that the distribution of Onamkkit across the state will be finalized by the 27th. The delivery of these kits will be accomplished by the upcoming Sunday.

The Onamkits, earmarked for all AII (Yellow Card) holders, are set to be distributed via ration shops by Sunday’s end. Those eligible for the Onamkit are advised to ensure timely acquisition from their designated ration outlets. In cases where this isn’t feasible, individuals have the option to obtain the kit from private ration shops.

Clarifying further, the Minister emphasized that the Onamkit will be directly delivered to welfare institutions and tribal villages. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the state government’s initiative for free Onkit distribution.

Remarkably, special rice has been procured for 62 lakh families in the state, aligning with the Onam celebrations. The Supplyco outlet has been bustling with activity during this period, achieving a remarkable sales record of Rs 2.29 crore over three days. Minister GR Anil highlighted the intensified activity at Supplyco due to the festive season.

As part of the Onam-related endeavors, Onkit containing essential items is being distributed to AAY card holders and residents of welfare institutions across the state. A total of 6,07,691 kits are slated for distribution, catering to 5,87,691 AAY cardholders, and an additional 20,000 kits will be provided to residents of welfare institutions. Distribution of these kits will take place through designated ration shops.
