Sushil broke down in tears all night in the lock-up

NEW DELHI∙ Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar, who was arrested in the case, said that the beating of National Junior Champion Sagar Dhankad in wrestling was only to frighten him and did not intend to kill him. Sushil Kumar, who is currently in police custody, was questioned by the police team four consecutive hours earlier in the day. That’s when Sushil testified that he didn’t intend to murder the young star.

Police sources also revealed that the star, who is on remand at Delhi’s Model Town police station, has been in tears ever since he was locked up. Sushil Kumar had not slept in the lock-up all night. The police said that they were fed but did not accept it. The police also revealed that he cried loudly from time to time at night.

Sushil Kumar only revealed that Sagar was beaten up when he was questioned in police custody. However, Sagar Dhankad was killed during the gang clash. Sushil Kumar, who remained in the Chhatrasal Stadium premises even after the clashes, escaped after being informed that Sagar Dhankad had been killed.

Earlier reports had surfaced that Sushil Kumar had suggested that the footage of Sagar being beaten up was captured on mobile and made viral everywhere. Sushil had appointed his assistant, Prince. Sushil Kumar suggested that the footage of Sagar being beaten up should be circulated everywhere so that no one raises his voice against him again.

There have also been indications that the controversy that resulted in the murder of Sagar Dhankat was caused by a dispute between gangsters over the real estate business. According to police, some of those who were with Sushil were among an underworld leader who is currently in jail.

Meanwhile, the railways are sure to suspend Sushil Kumar, who was arrested in connection with the murder case. Sushil, a senior commercial manager in Northern Railway, was working as a special sports officer of the Delhi government in the deputation. Sushil’s office is at the Chatrasal Stadium where the murder took place. A railway spokesman said it was noticed that a criminal case had been registered against Sushil and a decision on the suspension would be taken soon.
