British-Palestinian filmmaker Farah Nabulsi’s short film The Present has won prestigious 2021 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards for best short film.
The two-day event started off virtually on Saturday due to the coronavirus pandemic. The final evening of the awards will take place on Sunday.
The Present, her directorial debut, is the story of Yousef, who along with his daughter travel to buy a wedding anniversary gift for his wife in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
“For anyone who has seen The Present … you would know why I dedicate this award to the people of Palestine for whom freedom and equality is long, long overdue …” she said.
