Virbhadra Singh, a Congress veteran and former Himachal Pradesh chief minister, died at the age of 87.

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress politician Virbhadra Singh died in the early hours of Thursday (July 7, 2021) after a protracted illness. The Congress leader was 87 years old. Dr. Janak Raj, senior Medical Superintendent at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), reported that the veteran political leader died at 3:40 a.m.

According to the authorities, the senior leader suffered a heart attack on Monday and was in critical condition. Virbhadra Singh was hospitalised to the IGMC critical care unit.

Dr. Janak Raj further stated that Virbhadra Singh was placed on a ventilator on Wednesday under the supervision of cardiology department doctors due to a respiratory difficulty.

Virbhadra Singh served as a nine-term MLA and a five-term MP. He was the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh six times.

Virbhadra had previously tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time in two months on June 11. On April 12, he tested positive for the illness and was brought to Max Hospital in Mohali.

Singh had returned to Holly Lodge from the Chandigarh hospital on April 30 after being cured of the initial infection. However, he was brought to IGMC just hours after arriving home, citing cardiac and breathing issues. Since then, he has been receiving medical treatment in a hospital.
