UAE Set to Increase Airport-to-Airport Visa Change Fees Amid Surging Demand

Amidst a surge in demand for extended stays during the winter months, the UAE is poised to raise fees for airport-to-airport visa changes, with industry experts predicting an increase of up to 20%. The move follows a recent spike in airline fares for visitors departing and returning, resulting in a 125-dirham hike. The airport-to-airport visa change, allowing swift tourist visa issuance for neighboring countries without returning to the home country, has witnessed a significant rise in popularity, leading to the fee adjustment.

The authorities have reportedly phased out the 90-day visa option by the last quarter of 2023, driving up demand for the 60-day visa. The cost for a 60-day visa, previously starting at 1,300 dirhams, now begins at 1,500 dirhams. The fluctuation in fares is contingent on the timing of the booking, with early reservations potentially securing more reasonable rates. The change comes after the UAE discontinued the option for visit visa holders to extend their stay without exiting the country in December 2022, a policy that was temporarily altered during the pandemic for humanitarian reasons. The rising demand for extended visas, particularly the 60-day option, has led to challenges in securing reservations, especially among older individuals and expatriates bringing family members to enjoy the pleasant weather in the UAE.
