Over 4.05 million COVID vaccines are still available for states/UTs to administer: Centre

New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced on Friday that more than 4.05 crore unused doses of COVID vaccines are still available for distribution to states and union territories.
“So far, the Government of India (free of cost channel) and direct state procurement categories have provided more than 59.86 crore (59,86,36,380) vaccine doses to States/UTs. In addition, over 17.64 lakh doses (17,64,000) are in the works. The states/UTs still have more than 4.05 crore (4,05,746) COVID vaccine doses that need to be administered “According to the Union Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry, the central government has been assisting states and UTs by providing them with free COVID vaccines as part of the nationwide vaccination campaign.

The new phase of COVID-19 vaccination universalisation began on June 21, 2021. In the new phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive’s universalisation, the Union Government will procure and supply (at no cost) to states and UTs 75% of the vaccines produced in the country by vaccine manufacturers.

To date, India has administered 61.22 crore vaccine doses.

The Union Health Ministry announced yesterday that the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine was administered to 50% of the eligible population as part of the world’s largest vaccination drive.

The COVID vaccination drive in India began on January 16, this year.
