Closed Plantation Workers to Receive Onam Kits Valued at Rs 1000

Holders of ration cards working in closed-down plantations throughout the state will be provided with Onam kits worth Rs 1000. This initiative aims to support approximately 1835 families in the region.

The Onam kits will include items such as 20 kilograms of rice, one kilogram of sugar, and one liter of coconut oil, among others. The funding for these kits has been sourced from the relief fund designated for plantation laborers.

Notably, plantations including Cheenthalar of Peerumedu Tea Factory, Kottamala of MMJ Plantation, and Bonami and Bonacaud estates in Thiruvananthapuram have remained non-operational for 23 years. Unfortunately, many of the laborers employed in these plantations lack the means to fulfill their daily necessities.
