Tragic Train Derailment in Bihar: 4 Dead, Over 50 Injured as North East Express Coaches Derail

The North East Express train traveling from Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi to Kamakhya in Assam, derailed near Raghunathpur station in Buxar district, Bihar. The tragic incident occurred around 21.35 on Wednesday, causing the derailment of 21 coaches.

As a result, at least four individuals lost their lives, and approximately 50 passengers sustained injuries. Railway officials and local authorities swiftly initiated rescue efforts. Critically injured passengers were promptly transferred to AIIMS Patna for urgent medical attention.

Tarun Prakash, General Manager of East Central Railways (ECR), confirmed the casualties and stated that the rescue operation was in progress. He assured that a thorough investigation into the cause of the derailment would be conducted once the rescue operation concluded.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided an update, indicating the completion of evacuation and rescue operations. He mentioned that all coaches had been inspected, and arrangements were being made to transfer passengers to a special train for their onward journey.

The Assam Chief Minister’s Office expressed their concern and informed that they were closely monitoring the situation. This tragic incident follows a devastating triple train collision in Odisha’s Balasore district in June, where significant casualties were reported, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by railway safety authorities in the country.
