Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Minister’s son arrested for murder, bringing the death toll to nine

Lakhimpur Kheri: The Tikunia police station in Lakhimpur Kheri has filed a FIR against Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra’s son Ashish Mishra and 15 others for murder and inciting violence in Lakhimpur Kheri, despite the fact that the death toll had risen to nine on Monday.

The body of a missing local journalist, Raman Kashyap, was discovered in a mortuary on Monday, bringing the death toll to nine, including four farmers.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha claimed that Ashish Misra’s vehicle ran over farmers protesting a visit to a village in Lakhimpur Kheri by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

However, Ajay Misra and his son Ashish claimed that protesters attacked the convoy, killing a driver and three others, including two BJP workers.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police in the Hargaon police station area after going to meet with affected families in Tikunia.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, stated that those found guilty would face severe punishment.

Meanwhile, the farmers presented a charter of demands to District Magistrate Arvind Kumar Chaurasia on Monday morning, which included the dismissal of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni, the registration of a FIR against his son Ashish Mishra, compensation for the families of the deceased, and a government job for the kin.

The farmers have also requested a judicial investigation into the incident.

The district magistrate stated that he had forwarded the demands charter to the government and that a decision would be made soon.

Internet services in Lakhimpur and adjoining districts remained suspended on Monday.

The Uttar Pradesh government has asked the Lucknow airport authority not to allow the arrival of the Chhattisgarh chief minister and the Punjab deputy chief minister, who have announced plans to visit Lakhimpur Kheri in light of the violence that has erupted there.
