Mamata Banerjee blasts the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh for the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri, calling it “Killing Raj”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, saying the state has a “Killing Raj” rather than the promised “Ram Raj.”

“This is a tragic and unlucky incident. I’m at a loss for words to condemn this incident. The BJP government is anti-democracy. They only desire autocracy. Is this the ‘Ram Raj?’ This is ‘Killing Raj,’ not ‘Killing Raj,’ “Banerjee told reporters here.

On Sunday, up to eight people were killed in Lakhimpur Kheri as a result of violence sparked by a car hitting protesting farmers.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of several farmer unions, issued a statement on Sunday regarding the incident claiming the death of four farmers, alleging that one of the four farmers was shot dead by Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni’s son—Ashish Mishra, while the others were allegedly run over by vehicles in his convoy.

SKM’s allegations, however, have been refuted by both the Union Minister and his son. (ANI)
