ISIS claims responsibility for a mosque blast in Afghanistan that killed over 100 people

According to the New York Times, Islamic State Khorasan, also known as ISIS-K, has claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a Shia mosque in Afghanistan’s northern Kunduz province on Friday.

According to the publication, it was the group’s deadliest strike since the August 26 suicide bombing at Kabul’s international airport, which killed approximately 170 civilians and 13 US troops.

According to Russia Today, a blast ripped through the Sayed Abad Mosque in Afghanistan’s northern Kunduz province on Friday as local residents gathered for Friday prayer. More than 100 people were killed in the explosion. “More than 100 people were killed and about 20 people were injured in the mosque explosion,” an eyewitness told Sputnik.

Since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in mid-August, ISIL-affiliated terrorists have increased their attacks on them. Terrorist attacks have increased the likelihood of a larger conflict between the two groups. Earlier on Sunday, a bomb exploded at a mosque in Kabul, killing at least 12 people and injuring 32 others. The incident occurred in a crowded area at Kabul’s Eid Gah Mosque.
