A three-year-old toddler is among the seven new Omicron cases in Maharashtra

According to a recent report from the National Institute of Virology, seven new Omicron cases have been reported in Maharashtra, bringing the total number of Omicron positive cases to 17. So far, 32 Omicron cases have been reported in India, with 17 in Maharashtra, nine in Rajasthan, three in Gujarat, two in Karnataka, and one in Delhi.

Three of the seven cases in Maharashtra are from Mumbai, and four are from the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation in Pune. The three confirmed cases in Mumbai are three males aged 25, 37, and 48, all of whom have recently travelled to the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Tanzania. A three-and-a-half-year-old child is among the four new patients in Pune, and they are reportedly close contacts of the Indian-origin Nigerian woman who tested positive for Omicron last Sunday.

Four of the new cases have been fully vaccinated, one has received a single vaccination, one has not been immunised, and the toddler is obviously ineligible for the vaccine. Four of the seven patients are asymptomatic, while three have mild symptoms.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has observed a decline in public health and social measure compliance as vaccination rates rise, according to PIB. The Ministry of Health has warned Indian citizens to strictly adhere to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour in order to avoid a surge in cases as seen in European countries.

According to the state health bulletin, Maharashtra reported 695 new COVID-19 cases and 12 fatalities in the last 24 hours (December 10). With the addition of 695 new cases, the state’s total caseload increased to 66,42,372, including 6,534 active cases. So far, 1,41,223 people in Maharashtra have died as a result of coronavirus infection. After recovering from the virus, as many as 631 people were discharged from hospitals. The state’s total recoveries stand at 64,90,936. Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus tests performed in the state has risen to 6,66,39,988.
