PM Modi’s security lapse: The Congress government in Punjab is employing shady tactics, as per BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party slammed the Congress-led Punjab government on Wednesday for delaying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state to launch development projects worth thousands of crores.

Following a major security breach, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was forced to cancel his planned visit to Ferozepur, Punjab, to address a rally. The hiccup occurred when Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy became stuck for 15-20 minutes on a flyover. Protesters blocked the convoy about 30 kilometres from the National Martyrs Memorial in Hussainiwala.

JP Nadda, the President of the BJP, took to social media to criticise the Charanjit Singh Channi government, saying that his party will not “let such a cheap mentality impede the progress of Punjab” and will continue to work to develop the state.

Nadda also claimed that the Congress government’s cheap antics demonstrated that they are anti-development and have no regard for freedom fighters. He claimed that the Congress government tried to sabotage the Prime Minister’s trip out of fear of a landslide defeat by the electorate.

“They didn’t care that the PM was supposed to pay tribute to Bhagat Singh and other martyrs, as well as lay the groundwork for key development projects. The Congress government in Punjab has demonstrated that they are anti-development and have no regard for freedom fighters through their cheap antics “He stated this on the microblogging platform Twitter.

“What is extremely worrisome is that this incident was also a big security lapse as far as the PM is concerned. Protestors were given access to the Prime Minister’s route while the Punjab chief secretary and DGP gave assurances to the Special Protection Group that the route was clear.”
