Bengal government bans hookah bars in Kolkata

The West Bengal government banned hookah bars in Kolkata, citing an adverse impact on public health. Announcing the decision on Friday, Kolkata’s mayor, said that the Municipal Corporation (MC) will cancel the licenses of restaurants that operate hookah bars in the city.

He added that the administration received complaints that “certain intoxicants” are being used so that youngsters get addicted to hookahs. The mayor of Kolkata said that the KMC has issued a warning that it will discontinue licenses for restaurants which run such hookah bars in the city.
