In response to the increased number of COVID-19 cases reported by these states, the Centre dispatched multi-disciplinary teams to Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Manipur earlier on Friday. These teams will assist them in their efforts to provide targeted COVID response and management, as well as effectively combat the pandemic.

A clinician and a public health expert make up the two-person high-level team sent to these states.

“The teams will visit the States immediately and monitor the overall implementation of COVID-19 management, particularly in testing, including surveillance and containment operations; COVID Appropriate Behaviour and its enforcement; availability of hospital beds, sufficient logistics including ambulances, ventilators, medical oxygen, and so on,” the Health Ministry stated.

The central teams will also assess the situation and make recommendations to the respective state governments on public health activities.

To date, over 34 crore vaccine doses have been administered in India. It should be noted that the Health Ministry approved the vaccination of pregnant women against COVID-19 on Friday.
