LIFE Mission: Pinarayi to handover keys to 20,073 houses; 41,439 contracts signed

As part of the Life mission, Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will hand over keys to 20,073 houses to the beneficiaries on May 4. The houses were completed as part of the 100-day action plan, associated with the government’s second anniversary. Additionally, contracts will be signed with 41,439 beneficiaries of the mission. The event will take place in Kollam.

Local Self-Government Minister MB Rajesh will preside over the function. The government says the LIFE Mission has completed 3,42,156 houses so far. Under the ‘Manassodithiri Mannu’ campaign, 23.5 acres of land have been offered for the rehabilitation of landless homeless people. Of this, 12.32 acres of land have been handed over to eligible beneficiaries.

To further support the cause, the Chittilappilly Foundation has signed an MoU with the government to provide financial assistance of Rs 25 crore, at a maximum rate of Rs 2.5 lakh per family, to purchase land for 1,000 landless and homeless families. Four housing complexes have already been inaugurated. The construction of 25 housing complexes is currently in progress at various stages.

Additionally, the government has announced plans to construct new housing complexes in the panchayats of Nellikuzhi in Ernakulam district and Poovachal in Thiruvananthapuram district. The housing complexes under construction in Chemmanad in Kasaragod district, Anthoor and Kannapuram in Kannur district, Chathamangalam in Kozhikode district, Thathamangalam in Palakkad district, Kattappana in Idukki district, Mannancherry in Alappuzha district, and Enathu in Pathanamthitta district are targeted for completion by July 2023. It is expected that 324 landless families will be rehabilitated through these housing complexes, the government stated in a press release.
