Upcoming Heavy Rainfall Warning in State

The state is bracing for heavy rainfall, with a low-pressure system expected to develop by Tuesday, according to the Meteorological Center. Currently, central and southern regions are already experiencing sporadic heavy downpours, prompting a yellow alert in Idukki district due to the likelihood of substantial rainfall. In the upcoming days, isolated showers are predicted, with rain expected to persist until Monday.

Monday sees rain warnings issued in five districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Idukki, with the southern districts anticipated to receive the bulk of the monsoon rains.

In response to heavy rains and landslides, travel to Pathanamthitta’s Gavi area has been prohibited by the District Collector. Landslides have been reported in two locations along the Gavi route, leading to the suspension of KSRTC bus services in the region. Additionally, the sluice gates of the Moozhiyar and Maniyar dams, which were opened yesterday, have been closed due to the inflow of water from the mountains.
