High-Speed Rail Around the World: Trains Faster Than Vande Bharat Express

India’s Vande Bharat Express has marked a significant milestone in the country’s railway history, operating as a fully electric semi-high-speed train with speeds between 180 kmph and 200 kmph. While it stands among the fastest trains in India, there are trains in other countries that outpace its speed by twice. Let’s explore some of the high-tech and luxury trains worldwide:

Shanghai Maglev: 460 kmph (China)

The Shanghai Maglev train, also known as Shanghai Transrapid, achieves a remarkable speed of 460 kmph, setting a world record of 501 kmph. The train levitates above the track, propelled by an electromagnetic system, ensuring minimal friction.

CR Fuxing: 350 kmph (China)

Fuxing trains, developed entirely by the China Railway Corporation, operate at a speed of 350 kmph. These trains, with a length of 209 meters, are the first high-speed trains manufactured indigenously in China.

DB ICE: 350 kmph (Germany)Intercity Express 3 (ICE 3), jointly manufactured by Siemens and Bombardier, operates at a maximum speed of 320 kmph in Germany. Deutsche Bahn (DB) uses these high-speed electric multiple units.

SCNCF TGV: 320 kmph (France)TGV, or “A Grande Vitesse,” is a symbol of France and operates at a speed of 320 kmph. Manufactured by Alstom, TGV connects France with neighboring countries such as Italy, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany.

JR Shinkansen: 320 kmph (Japan)Shinkansen, known as the bullet train, has been a pioneer in high-speed rail. The E5 and H5 series trains, manufactured by Hitachi Rail and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, operate at a maximum speed of 320 kmph in Japan.

These trains showcase the global advancements in high-speed rail technology, surpassing the speeds achieved by India’s Vande Bharat Express.
