Temporary Ban on Beach Tourism Activities in Kannur Due to Rough Seas

Due to the rough seas in many coastal areas, beach tourism activities have been temporarily halted in Kerala’s Kannur district. The District Disaster Management Authority issued instructions to the District Tourism Promotion Council to implement the ban at various tourist centers in the district. Precautionary measures include dismantling the Muzhapilangad floating bridge and urging locals to be cautious when visiting coastal areas.

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) reported very high waves, reaching up to 11 meters in some places, due to a low-pressure system moving into the Indian Ocean. These rough sea conditions lead to coastal erosion, high tides, and water level surges. The recent rough seas have caused significant damage, including flooding of houses and roads, as well as damage to boats and fishing equipment in several coastal parts of Kerala.
