UAE Introduces Five Digital Guidelines for Visa Cancellation

The UAE government has unveiled five digital guidelines for visa cancellation, streamlining the process for both individuals and employers. Here are the key points:

Cancellation by Sponsor: Family members’ visas are to be cancelled by the sponsor, while employee visas should be cancelled by the respective companies or employers. Individuals cannot cancel their visas independently.

Employment Visa Cancellation: Employers must apply for cancellation of an employee’s employment contract and labour card at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The employee’s signature on the application is required, along with an affidavit stating that they have received all wages and benefits.

Visa Cancellation Process: After completing the necessary paperwork, employers can apply to the ICP or GDRFI for visa cancellation. Meanwhile, individuals can only cancel their visas after the cancellation process for family members is completed.

Online Cancellation: Visas can be cancelled online via the official website of ICP or through approved typing centres, enhancing convenience and efficiency.

Stay Period After Cancellation: Individuals may be permitted to stay in the country for 1 to 6 months after visa cancellation, depending on the nature of the visa. However, fines of AED 50 per day apply for overstaying with an expired visa.

It’s crucial to note that the Emirates ID becomes invalid upon visa expiry. Therefore, applicants must submit the visa cancellation request to the ICP before the visa expiration date. For detailed information and procedures, individuals and employers are advised to refer to the official website.
