Marginal Rise in Daily Temperatures Across Districts, Heavy Rain Predicted in Wayanad, Malappuram

A marginal rise in daily temperatures was observed in various districts of the state on Monday, indicating a trend towards warmer weather. However, relief may be on the horizon as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts widespread summer showers from Wednesday onwards. Until then, high temperatures are expected to persist in several areas.

Anticipating heavy rainfall at isolated places, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Malappuram and Wayanad districts on Thursday. Earlier, a similar alert was issued for Idukki district on Friday.

In Alappuzha, the temperature rose from 37.4 degrees to 37.7 degrees, hinting at a potential heat wave-like situation. However, for an official heat wave declaration, temperatures must remain consistent for two consecutive days.

Similarly, Palakkad witnessed a rise in temperature from 39 to 39.4 degrees, while Kozhikode experienced a 0.7-degree increase to reach 37.9 degrees on Monday. Conversely, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts recorded a slight reduction in temperature.

Looking ahead, the IMD predicts a decrease in the intensity of the heat wave from Tuesday onwards in the southern parts of the country. Despite the temporary rise in temperatures, the upcoming showers may offer much-needed relief to residents experiencing the heat.
