Rains are expected to persist in Kerala until Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting heavy downpours in various parts of the state. This weather pattern is attributed to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the southwest Arabian Sea.
As a precautionary measure, the weather agency has issued a yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta districts on Wednesday. Subsequently, the following districts will be under a yellow alert on the specified days:
May 16 (Thursday): Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Kozhikode
May 17 (Friday): Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, and Wayanad
May 18 (Saturday): Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kottayam, and Idukki
Additionally, there is an expectation that the monsoon may reach the Andaman Sea by May 19.
