Kerala Braces for Heavy Rainfall: Yellow and Orange Alerts Issued

The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall across various districts of Kerala in the upcoming days. Starting Thursday, a yellow alert has been issued for districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur, with expected isolated heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

The intensity of rains is anticipated to escalate from May 18 onwards, leading to the declaration of orange alerts in several districts:

May 18: Palakkad and Malappuram

May 19: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Idukki

May 20: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki

Moreover, various districts are expected to experience isolated heavy rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm within a span of 24 hours on the following dates:

May 17: Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad

May 18: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Kozhikode, and Wayanad

May 19: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Palakkad, and Malappuram

May 20: Thrissur and Palakkad

Additionally, a yellow alert has been extended to Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, urging residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions amidst the forecasted heavy rainfall.
