Southern Railway Cancels Four Special Trains to Kerala

Southern Railway has decided to cancel six special trains, including four weekly services running through Kerala, due to operational and safety issues. This decision comes at a challenging time, as travel difficulties are expected to increase with the reopening of schools.
Notably, the Mangaluru-Coimbatore-Mangaluru weekly train (06041/06042), which operates on Saturdays, will be suspended from June 8 to 29. However, services on May 25 and June 1 will proceed as scheduled.
Cancelled Special Trains:
Train No. 06041 Mangaluru Central – Coimbatore Weekly Special: Scheduled to depart Mangaluru Central at 09:30 on 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th June 2024 is fully cancelled.
Train No. 06042 Coimbatore – Mangaluru Central Weekly Special: Scheduled to depart Coimbatore at 22:15 on 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th June 2024 is fully cancelled.
Train No. 06071 Kochuveli – Hazrat Nizamuddin Weekly Superfast Special: Scheduled to depart Kochuveli at 14:15 on 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th June 2024 is fully cancelled.
Train No. 06072 Hazrat Nizamuddin – Kochuveli Weekly Special: Scheduled to depart Hazrat Nizamuddin at 04:10 on 10th, 17th, and 24th June and 1st July 2024 is fully cancelled.
Train No. 06037 Chennai Egmore – Velankanni Bi-Weekly Special: Scheduled to depart Chennai Egmore at 23:50 on 21st, 23rd, 28th, and 30th June 2024 is fully cancelled.
Train No. 06038 Velankanni – Chennai Egmore Bi-Weekly Special: Scheduled to depart Velankanni at 14:45 on 22nd, 24th, 29th June and 1st July 2024 is fully cancelled.
Previously, the special train on the Mangaluru-Kottayam-Mangaluru route (06075/06076) was also cancelled. This train was scheduled to operate once a week on Saturdays from April 20 to June 1 but was cancelled after its inaugural service on April 20.
Meanwhile, the loco pilots of Southern Railway have announced a strike starting from June 1, demanding a reduction in workload. This strike is likely to further affect services.
