Heavy Rains Prompt Orange Alert in Seven Kerala Districts, Red Alert for Five

As per IMD updates, heavy rains are likely to continue in the state even on Thursday. An orange alert has been issued for as many as seven districts including Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.

Meanwhile, a red alert was issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki. The remaining districts were all placed under yellow alert.

Rain is expected to decrease by Sunday. Until then, torrential downpour is expected to continue in places in the state, especially in the mid-southern region. Though Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Ernakulam were earlier placed under an orange alert, the IMD later upgraded the warning, predicting extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places. As part of the rains, a sea wave alert has been issued across the coastline.

A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal. It is predicted to intensify into a deep depression. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon arrived at the coast of Sri Lanka.
