PV Sindhu Falls Short Against Wang Zhi Yi in Malaysian Masters Final

Indian badminton star PV Sindhu faced a tough defeat against world no. 7 Wang Zhi Yi of China in the Malaysian Masters final. The match, lasting 79 minutes, saw Sindhu win the first set but falter in the subsequent sets, resulting in a 16-21, 21-5, 21-16 loss. Sindhu had previously defeated Thai player Busan Ongbamrungphan in a grueling 88-minute semi-final (13-21, 21-16, 21-12).

This final marked Sindhu’s first appearance in over a year since her runner-up finish at the Madrid Spain Masters in 2023. Despite showing promise early on, Sindhu couldn’t maintain her momentum against Wang, who secured the gold with a strong comeback. PV Sindhu is currently ranked 14th in the world.
