Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Nine Districts Amid Monsoon Arrival

The Central Meteorological Department has predicted moderate rain in isolated areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam over the next three hours. Light rain is also possible in Thrissur and Malappuram. Additionally, the National Centre for Oceanography and Oceanography (INCOIS) has warned of 1.1 to 1.5 meter high waves and storm surge with speeds between 45 cm and 81 cm per second until 11:30 pm tonight. Similar conditions are expected along the southern Tamil Nadu coast.

The Meteorological Centre has announced that the monsoon will reach the state on May 31st, marking the end of the summer rains. Initially, no rain was forecasted for two days, but this was revised yesterday. This year’s monsoon is expected to be stronger than previous years, with Kerala and other states receiving heavier than normal rainfall in June. India is projected to receive 106 percent rainfall from June to September, with North India expecting 92 to 108 percent rainfall.
