Human Rights Commission Addresses Unwashed Vegetables in Sadhya Preparations

The Human Rights Commission, led by Acting Chairperson K Baijunath, has directed the Food Safety Department to address the issue of unwashed vegetables being used in sadyas at weddings and other functions. This order follows a complaint from Dr. Suresh K Gupta about food adulteration, including unwashed vegetables, milk, and fruits. A report from the Food Safety Commissioner prompted the commission’s response.

The Food Safety Department has committed to special inspections to ensure the hygiene of milk, fruits, and vegetables. They will issue warnings and fines for unhygienic practices, with repeat offenses leading to legal actions such as license suspension or cancellation through the RDO court. District food safety offices will set fines based on the severity of the infractions.
