Mani Shankar Aiyar Apologizes for Controversial Remarks on 1962 China-India Conflict

Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has stirred political controversy by referring to the Chinese “allegedly invading” India in 1962. Aiyar, known for making controversial statements, later issued an “unreserved” apology for his “mistake.”

The Congress party has reacted to his comments, with general secretary Jairam Ramesh acknowledging Aiyar’s apology and attributing the remarks to his age. Ramesh stated that the party has distanced itself from Aiyar’s “original phraseology.”

Meanwhile, the BJP criticized Aiyar’s remarks as an attempt at revisionism. The party also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of overlooking Chinese incursions into India in May 2020, highlighting the political tensions surrounding the issue.
