PM Modi Commences 45-Hour Meditation in Kanyakumari, Live Broadcast Planned

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a 45-hour meditation session at Kanyakumari’s renowned Vivekananda Rock Memorial, starting from Thursday evening. This spiritual endeavor mirrors his previous retreat in a cave in Kedarnath following the 2019 election campaign. The event will be streamed live across all social media platforms, as announced by the BJP.

Itinerary: Modi will engage in meditation from May 30 evening to June 1 evening at Dhyan Mandapam, where Vivekananda is said to have had a divine revelation about ‘Bharat Mata’. Additionally, he plans to offer prayers at the revered Sri Bhagavathy Amman temple. Before concluding his visit on June 1, Modi intends to visit the Thiruvalluvar statue, a towering tribute to the Tamil poet located near the rock memorial.

Election Code of Conduct: Opposition parties, including Congress and DMK, have raised concerns about Modi’s visit coinciding with the silence period before the final phase of Lok Sabha elections on June 1. Congress accused Modi of trying to bypass silence period restrictions and urged the Election Commission to ensure the event is not broadcasted, citing a violation of the model code of conduct. Meanwhile, the local DMK unit has filed a complaint with the District Collector, highlighting the ongoing tourist season and the enforced model code of conduct.

Significance of the Visit: BJP officials underscore Modi’s choice of Kanyakumari, emphasizing his dedication to realizing Vivekananda’s vision for India. They stress the significance of the rock memorial, likening it to Sarnath for Gautam Buddha, as it played a pivotal role in Vivekananda’s life and spiritual journey.

Security Arrangements: Rigorous security measures, including the deployment of 2,000 police personnel, surveillance by the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy, are in place for Modi’s 45-hour stay at the mid-sea memorial. The Tirunelveli range DIG, along with the superintendent of police, inspected security arrangements. Additional precautions include the closure of the beach to tourists and the suspension of private boat services during the event.
