Maruti Suzuki Sees Marginal Rise in Domestic Sales to 1,44,002 Units in May 2024

Maruti Suzuki India announced a slight increase in domestic passenger vehicle sales for May 2024, with figures rising to 1,44,002 units compared to 1,43,708 units in May 2023. This marginal growth comes despite an overall 2% year-on-year decline in total wholesales, which fell to 1,74,551 units from 1,78,083 units the previous year. The mixed results reflect varying performances across different vehicle segments within the company’s portfolio.

Sales in the mini segment, which includes popular models like the Alto and S-Presso, saw a significant drop, falling to 9,902 units from 12,236 units in May 2023. The compact car segment, featuring well-known models such as the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR, also experienced a decline, with sales decreasing to 68,206 units from 71,419 units the previous year. In contrast, the utility vehicle segment, which includes the Brezza, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, S-Cross, and XL6, showed a strong performance with sales increasing to 54,204 units from 46,243 units in the same period last year.

Sales of Maruti Suzuki vans recorded a decrease, with figures dropping to 10,960 units from 12,818 units in May 2023. The light commercial vehicle Super Carry also saw a slight decline in sales, falling to 2,692 units from 2,888 units the previous year. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki India reported a significant drop in exports, with units decreasing to 17,367 in May 2024 from 26,477 in May 2023. Despite these fluctuations, the overall performance indicates resilience in the domestic market amid challenging conditions.
