DiscoverEU: Free Travel Passes for Youth Exploring Europe

Europe is inviting young adventurers from across the globe to embark on a journey through its rich culture and stunning landscapes. Approximately 35,551 lucky youths will be granted free passes to traverse the continent starting from July. The DiscoverEU project aims to educate youngsters about Europe’s diverse cultural tapestry, history, and heritage. Launched as part of the Erasmus+ program—an EU initiative supporting education, training, and sport—the project offers a remarkable opportunity for individuals aged 18 and above from EU member states and associated countries, including India, to explore Europe. In the latest round of allocations held in April, around 180,000 youths applied for the passes. Successful applicants can travel solo or in groups of five between July 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025. Additionally, selected candidates will receive a European youth card, providing discounts on public transport, cultural sites, accommodation, sports activities, research, and food.

Application Process and Timeline

DiscoverEU conducts two application rounds annually—spring (April intake) and autumn (October intake). The specific dates for applications vary each year, so aspiring travelers should stay updated through the official DiscoverEU website or EU communication channels. The application window remains open for a few weeks, during which eligible candidates can complete the necessary procedures to obtain their travel passes. As part of the application process, applicants are required to take a brief quiz covering topics related to the EU, their travel plans, and motivations for participating in the program.
