IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Heavy Rainfall Across Kerala

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for multiple districts in Kerala, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas over the next few days. The alerts are in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod on June 7th; for Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod on June 8th; and for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod on June 9th.

The forecasted heavy rainfall poses significant risks, including flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding, especially in low-lying areas. The intense downpours over a short period could lead to soil erosion and disrupt daily life. The IMD has urged residents and local authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate the potential impact of the severe weather.

The IMD’s warning comes as Kerala continues to experience ongoing rainfall, which may exacerbate existing conditions and lead to further calamities. Government institutions and citizens are advised to stay updated with local weather reports and follow any instructions issued by authorities to ensure safety and preparedness during this period.
