Kerala to Celebrate Bakrid on June 17

Kerala will celebrate Bakrid, or Eid-al-Adha, on June 17, following the sighting of the Dul Hijjah moonrise at Kappad beach. This significant announcement was made by Sayyid Muhammad Jifri Muthukkoya Thangal, President of All Kerala Jamiat-ul-Ulema, alongside Prof. K. Ali Kutty Musliyar, Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, and Naib Sayyid Abdullah Koya Shihabudeen Thangal for Kozhikode Qazi Sayyid Muhammed Koya Jamalullaili Thangal on Friday.

Bakrid, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is an important religious holiday for Muslims worldwide. The celebration commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. The observance includes special prayers, feasts, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, symbolizing Ibrahim’s devotion. This year, Kerala’s Muslim community will gather to mark this occasion with joy and reverence, following the traditional moon sighting at Kappad beach.
