Local residents and bus travelers are exempt from this requirement. Checkpoints have been established to issue e-passes, which involve submitting the necessary documents.

This e-pass mandate follows a directive from the Madras High Court aimed at regulating traffic during the busy summer season in these tourist hotspots. The government has implemented an online application system for TN e-passes on its official website, where visitors must pre-register their visit dates and provide vehicle information.
