New Delhi is set to witness a historic political shift as Rekha Gupta takes the oath as Chief Minister in a grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan today. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) returned to power in Delhi after 26 years, ending the 10-year rule of Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
In anticipation of the large-scale event, the Delhi Police have implemented extensive security measures, deploying over 25,000 personnel alongside 15 paramilitary companies. A senior police official stated that more than 5,000 security forces are stationed in and around Ramlila Maidan, with 2,500 strategic locations identified for heightened surveillance.
The swearing-in event will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Cabinet ministers, and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states, with a turnout expected to exceed 50,000 attendees. To ensure smooth proceedings, police have enforced strict security protocols, restricting entry only to authorized personnel.

Rekha Gupta (50), a first-time MLA, was appointed Leader of the House in the Delhi Assembly during the BJP legislature party meeting on Wednesday night, as confirmed by senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad. Following her nomination, she met Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and officially staked her claim to form the new government.
