The competition features the iconic Chundan Vallam, Kerala’s legendary snake boat that can stretch to around 100 feet and is synonymous with the state’s famous Onam boat races.
Two teams of 80 oarsmen each will take their positions in the same boat and row in opposite directions. The objective is simple but gruelling: overpower the opposing crew and pull them beyond the designated centre line.
With 160 rowers battling for control of a single boat, this promises to be a spectacular display of collective strength, rhythm and endurance.
2. Iruttukuthy / Churulan Vallam Row Off
The second category shifts the action to the nimble Churulan Vallam, a traditional sport boat known for its speed and agility on the water.
Here, two teams of 25 rowers each will face off aboard a single boat. Success will depend not just on physical strength, but on flawless coordination, stamina and the ability to maintain rhythm under intense pressure.
