Kerala Rain: Holiday Declared for Educational Institutions in 10 Districts Today

District collectors announced the holiday amid persistent heavy rainfall, waterlogging and the operation of relief camps. However, scheduled university and public examinations will continue in districts where exemptions have been specified

Thiruvananthapuram: In view of adverse weather conditions and heavy rainfall, district collectors have declared a holiday for educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, Alappuzha, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrissur, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Kasaragod on Tuesday (August 4, 2026).

Meanwhile, educational institutions functioning as relief camps in Idukki, Wayanad, and Payyannur, Taliparamba and Iritty taluks of Kannur will also remain closed.

Pathanamthitta
The District Collector declared a holiday for all educational institutions due to heavy rainfall and the operation of relief camps in several school buildings across the district.

Malappuram
Citing incessant heavy rain, District Collector Dr. Vinay Goyal announced a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, on Tuesday. The order also covers madrasas, tuition centres and anganwadis. However, pre-scheduled university and Kerala PSC examinations will be held as planned.

Kozhikode
With continuous heavy rain, widespread waterlogging and forecasts predicting further downpours, especially in hilly areas, the District Collector declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including schools, professional colleges, madrasas, tuition centres and anganwadis. Institutions conducting online classes are exempt from the order.

Alappuzha
All educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis and tuition centres, will remain closed following extensive waterlogging and the operation of relief camps in several school premises.

Kottayam
The District Collector announced a holiday for all educational institutions in the district owing to heavy rainfall.

Thrissur
Authorities have declared a holiday for all educational institutions across the district.

Kasaragod
The District Collector announced a holiday for all educational institutions on Tuesday in view of adverse weather conditions caused by heavy rain.

Palakkad
A holiday has been declared for all educational institutions in the district, including professional colleges, anganwadis and tuition centres.

Ernakulam
All educational institutions in the district will remain closed on Tuesday due to heavy rainfall.

Kannur
The holiday is limited to educational institutions in Payyannur, Taliparamba and Iritty taluks. Madrasas and tuition centres in these taluks will also remain closed. However, professional colleges functioning as relief camps are exempt from the holiday order. Pre-scheduled university and public examinations, as well as interviews, will be conducted as scheduled.

Idukki
The District Collector has declared a holiday for educational institutions functioning as relief camps until the camps are closed. School heads have been directed to conduct online classes or make alternative arrangements to compensate for the lost instructional hours.

Wayanad
Educational institutions currently operating as relief camps across the district will remain closed on Tuesday, the District Collector said.
