Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra Expelled from Lok Sabha Over ‘Cash for Query’ Scandal

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has faced expulsion from the Lok Sabha following a discussion on the report from the Ethics Committee regarding the ‘cash for query’ scandal. The Parliamentary Ethics Committee, responsible for investigating the complaint, issued a report recommending Mahua’s expulsion, leading to a resolution for her removal from the Lok Sabha. Despite opposition demands, including from the Congress, for time to study the committee’s report and granting Mahua an opportunity to respond in Parliament, Speaker Om Birla proceeded with the expulsion.

Expressing her dissatisfaction, Mahua Moitra accused the Ethics Committee of disregarding rules and preparing the report against her without considering her perspective. She asserted that the expulsion was a consequence of her vocal stance against Adani and pledged to continue her fight, both inside and outside the Parliament, for the next 30 years. The incident has sparked controversy and debates on parliamentary ethics and due process in handling such cases.
