Britney Spears Loses Court Case Against Dad Despite Moving Testimony: Report

Washington: Despite Britney Spears’ explosive testimony last week, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge dismissed the singer’s lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham III, plea to have Jamie Spears removed as his daughter’s co-conservator.
According to E! Jamie was appointed conservator of Britney’s estate and person in 2008, following the singer’s public breakdown. Bessemer Trust Company, a wealth management firm, joined Jamie as a co-conservator of the estate last year.

“The conservator’s request to suspend James P. Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company of California, N.A. as sole conservator of estate is denied without prejudice,” according to the document.

Britney’s emotional public speech during the virtual court hearing about her conservatorship on June 23 resulted in this verdict. During her hearing, the 39-year-old singer slammed her father, alleging that he “liked the control to hurt his own daughter.”

Jamie’s attorney issued a statement at the time that said, “Mr. Spears is heartbroken to see his daughter in such distress. Mr. Spears adores his daughter and misses her greatly.”

Jamie filed a petition on Tuesday, which E! acquired. News and demanded a probe into Britney’s complaints of mistreatment at the hands of her conservatorship. Jamie also stated in the statement that he has not supervised his daughter’s personal or medical matters for the past two years.

Back in November 2020, the court denied Britney’s legal team’s plea to remove Jamie as conservator of her estate. At the time, the judge also decided that Jamie would be joined as a co-conservator by Bessemer Trust Company.

According to TMZ, the singer’s lawyers wanted Jamie to be replaced by Bessemer Trust, which would have become the sole conservator of her estate, but the judge refused because no official papers had been submitted at the time.

Following that, Sam recently filed the paperwork to allow Bessemer Trust to take on the new role of co-conservator. The judge agreed, but also stated that Jamie will continue to serve as a co-conservator, refusing the motion to suspend him.

TMZ has learned that Britney’s lawyer will submit another application to remove Jamie soon, as the singer wants him gone completely.

In a related vein, Bessemer Trust is not yet functioning as a co-conservator to Britney’s estate because certain documents must still be filed before the judge’s ruling takes effect.

As a result, Jamie has been and continues to be the only custodian of Britney’s estate.
