African Swine Fever Detected in Kannur; Official Orders Extensive Pig Culling in Two Farms

African swine fever has been verified in the Kanichar panchayat of Kannur. The district collector has issued a directive to carry out widespread culling of pigs in two pig farms. The confirmation of swine fever came to light during an inspection by the district animal welfare officer at the pig farm owned by PC Jins in Malayambadi, Kanichar. All pigs on this farm and those within a 10-kilometer radius at the pig farm owned by Mile James Alakathadam are required to be culled, and their carcasses must be disposed of following established norms.

The region encompassing one kilometer around the confirmed disease site has been designated as an infected area, while a 10-kilometer radius is under surveillance. The distribution of pork, operation of supply shops, transportation of pigs to other parts of the district, and the movement of pigs into the surveillance zone from other areas have all been prohibited for a period of three months.
